Pearl Harbor is the home for several significant artifacts from the World War Two USS Parche (SS 384). Located on the Submarine Base itself is perhaps the largest item, the bridge structure and periscope shears (pictured above). Equally as significant is the 5"/25 submarine deck gun located just aft of the bridge (photo below).

When the bridge was pulled off the boat, the internal conning tower structure was also removed. The SS 384 conning tower is now located outside of the Bowfin Submarine Museum which is also in Pearl Harbor. Visitors can view the restored interior of the conning tower close up. See photos below. Mary Campbell (wife of SS 384 XO Churchill "Jim" Campbell) commissioned a plaque that is mounted here which honors by name all 192 men who served on Parche.

Bremerton Washington is now the final home for the 683 sail. The sail is installed in front of the Puget Sound Navy Museum on the waterfront just outside the main gate of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. An interpretive sign (shown below) was recently added to enable visitors to learn about the boat and the awards painted on the sail. Sail trivia: an "extra" award of a Meritorious Unit Citation (MUC) was painted on the sail for the boat's decommissioning and then reproduced for this display. It is unknown how this error occurred or went seemingly unnoticed during the well attended deactivation ceremony! This error will be corrected the next time the sail is painted. Only the correct awards are represented on the interpretive sign however. A permanent museum Submarine Special Operations Exhibit that includes a Parche display and additional boat artifacts will open on 10/20/10.
